Sunny’s love for the outdoors came from growing up in the mountains surrounding Estes Park, Colorado. As a kid, he spent every possible minute outside in the summer and in the winter. For high school, Sunny moved out to southern California to live with his dad just eight blocks from the beach. Most of the time, he was in the water or taking photos of his surfer friends. After graduating, he moved back to Colorado to go to college and spent a few years after school traveling around the country. The drive to be outside hasn’t changed over the decades. Sunny is often found painting in Plein Air or hiking around taking photos for future paintings and studies. The years of being in nature and feeling the energy it provides has provided both context and inspiration that is now transcribed through a pile of paint and a brush.
Having a professional glass artist as a mom, Sunny has dabbled in art his entire life. Sunny spends his time working loosely, with the largest brush he can, in the effort to tell the story. While most of his work is landscapes, he’s not afraid to try anything. His portfolio and commissions include portraits, cityscapes and other mediums like watercolor and pen and ink. With paint though, he loves color and sometimes will push the colors in his paintings.
When he isn’t painting, he enjoys fly fishing, hitting a little white ball around a golf course, playing in his large garden or enjoying time with his wife and three teenage daughters.
