Acrylic, photography, woodworking
My name is Rosemary McKenzie, I am self taught and continuing to learn with every piece.
My favorite medium is acrylic and I prefer abstract styles. In painting, I like to use water and creative means to move the paint creating texture and feelings of movement. I like to let the painting develop organically and then tell me what it is and what it means. Art isn’t always a conscious action but instead an invitation to the unconscious to express itself through the artist. Additionally, I enjoy photography and woodworking. When I do photography I like to find the things that are unnoticed and capture their beauty and well as creative angles and perspectives that are easily overlooked. In woodworking, it as all about listening to the wood and bringing out what it wants to be, showcasing its natural beauty.
Undoubtedly, my chief inspiration is my grandpa Harold Raap who was a phenomenal abstract acrylic artist creating incredible flowing pieces using acrylic, water and inovative techniques to move the paint, he never used brushes.
Professionally, I am a chef, so I am constantly creating art with each plate I serve.
Making us contemplate meaning and our shared experience of consciousness, art is an expression of what it means to be human. Because it is beyond words, art is a universal language transcending all barriers. The rules are there to be transcended, there is no limit to what can be created and in what way. I look forward to exploring, experimenting and discovering the myriad ways to express myself and the meaning I find in being through art.
