Colored pencil
The earliest memory I have of someone being impressed with my drawing abilities was in 6th grade. As a result of learning about early pioneer days, I drew a buffalo. Although the teacher gave me an “A,” my dad thought I had traced it. He offered to pay me $5.00 if I would draw him another one while he watched. That was a big reward for me, one that I eagerly pursued—and gained. I guess that was my first commissioned piece!
I married at eighteen and then spent many years using my creative energies to build a family and survive single parenting. My four children were equally creative—especially when it came to getting into mischief.
Most of my working career was as a supportive team member in the medical industry. Prior to that, I managed and was involved in the sign-making and printing businesses.
Now, many years later, with my children grown and gone, my greatest satisfaction has been pursuing more artistic adventures. I have made porcelain dolls, taken pottery and drawing classes, and learned stained glass. The beginner’s stained-glass class I now teach is truly inspiring. It’s exciting to see my students create beautiful glass projects using this vintage art form. However, painting with colored pencils became my tool for full expression and passion. I simply must draw and play with pencils.
Some of my drawings attempt to capture beauty in forgotten places—my Abandoned series. Other series include Vintage Faces, Florals, Whimsical Portraits, and more.
Hope you enjoy!
