July 2023 Artist of the Month
About the Artist
Richard Simpson has been creating art in various forms all his life. Art runs in his family and his father provided much inspiration and encouragement. As a youth he won two national art contests, and by middle school discovered photography, a life-long passion. Photography gave him an eye for composition that is the critical element in his paintings. His realistic style strives to capture the nuances of light and color in his work. Early morning and late in the day excursions often inspire the striking light found in his art.
Today Richard typically works with acrylic on canvas, in a style very similar to oils. Years of collecting photographs in the Appalachians of the east and the Rockies of the west continue to inspire his landscapes and florals. Visits to Chile and Brazil have resulted in colorful paintings that are a snapshot of the culture. And being an avid skier he often captures the winter beauty of the Colorado mountains.
Richard’s paintings are exhibited through his association with Littleton Fine Arts Guild and the Paint Box Guild. His paintings have won recognitions though both Guilds, and can be seen on display at the Depot Art Gallery of Littleton, and at various venues in the Littleton area.
