Artist Bio:

Steve Slocomb is a self taught photographer who left an engineering career in 1970 to devote himself to taking pictures, starting off with photographing performers at Magic Mountain amuesment park; Sonny and Cher, Milton Berle, and Phyllis Diller were among some of his subjects.
In 1972 he was hired by the renowned multi-media designer Charles Eames where he learned the art of film making. This eventually led to a career in the Hollywood motion picture industry where he worked on such films as Star Trek, White Fang, Ghost, Total Recall, Predator, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Friday the 13th3D. Along the way he worked on the ground breaking Disney theme park 3D productions; Michael Jackson’s Captain Eo and Jim Henson’s Muppetvision.
In the early 1980s he moved to Montana, periodically returning to Los Angeles to work on projects like the 1984 Olympic games where he photographed the venues and design elements for the architects. In 1994 he was the director of photography on the 35mm Lifetime movie “Season of Change” filmed in the Bitterroot Valley.
In 2004 he completed work on a self produced documentary “The Story of the Bitterroot” which aired on PBS in several states. It is being used in Montana schools as part of the Indian Education for All program.
Steve is currently continuing his long term relationship with the Forest Service’s Missoula Technology and Development Center where he has completed some 30 documentary style training videos. He also has been shooting for network news and magazine shows for over 15 years.
Much of the time you will find Steve perusing the Colorado back country looking for the perfect photo. In the last year the quest has focused on getting fabulous closeups of wild flowers that feature the sun in the background. He pointedly notes that no filters were used and that the sun was not photoshopped in.
