Steve Slocomb

Artist Headshot

Steve Slocomb is a self taught photographer who left an engineering career in 1970 to devote himself to taking pictures, starting off with photographing performers at Magic Mountain amusement park; Sonny and Cher, Milton Berle, and Phyllis Diller were among some of his subjects.

In 1972 he was hired by the renowned multi-media designer Charles Eames where he learned the art of film making. This eventually led to a career in the Hollywood motion picture industry where he worked on such films as Star Trek, White Fang, Ghost, Total Recall, Predator, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Friday the 13th3D. Along the way he worked on the ground breaking Disney theme park 3D productions; Michael Jackson’s Captain Eo and Jim Henson’s Muppetvision.

Much of the time you will find Steve perusing the Colorado back country looking for the perfect photo. His quest has focused on getting fabulous closeups of wild flowers that feature the sun in the background. He pointedly notes that no filters were used and that the sun was not photoshopped in. Another favorite subject of his are historic ghost towns which he often captures utilizing an infrared modified camera.
